The second album project from alt folk rock duo Sixteen Bones, a collaboration between two established Louisville rock music scenesters, David Sailor Bryant (My Own Victim, Surviving Thalia) and Bryan Fox (End of Me), delivers the powerful guitar punches of post-grunge acoustic rock, mixed with the simple storytelling aspects of alt-country and folk. Sailor being the brainchild behind all of the album’s storytelling, combined with the often under-appreciated musicianship and string work which Bryan Fox articulately layers into the right places, seemingly melds into a collection of tracks whose lyrical poetics and architectural composure often rival for superiority. These dudes just flat out know how to work well together to write powerful songs. Every song on the album is capable of penetrating your psyche, hitting like bricks in some unmistakable way, and making damn sure you feel exactly what Sailor felt when he wrote the song. And while most of the songs on the album deal with real stories and the raw feelings of pain, sorrow, despair, betrayal, death and the consequences of substance abuse, the album is also capable of picking you back up and making you realize just how precious and short life can be, and that you only get one shot on this earth. So don’t fuck it up.
